How is Power Obtained?
Power is the ability to influence others. We believe that when you work hard to gain responsibility that others don't have, you gain more power and others are more likely to listen to you. You also have the power for you to be responsible and follow the rules. To obtain power there must be rules for those in power. If there weren't some kind of concept setting the do’s and don’ts then we’d be all over the place. When people respect you and look up to you, they are more likely to be influenced by you which gives you the power to change other people.
We asked some of the security guards about their thoughts on how power is obtained. David answered, “Power is someone you respect, and you earn it through your actions, by doing the right thing.” and John said “ power is your ability to impose your will over someone else, and you obtain power ethically (eth- ic-lee) by working hard and developing your ideas and your plans and get people to buy into it, or unethically by money or intimidation. At Castle View I have the power of persuasion, to do something that I believe in, and the power to enforce rules.”
In conclusion, we believe power is something that you can earn by working hard and earning the right to have influence on others and power over them. When you work hard and stick with what you believe in, the confidence you earn will make others more influenced by you and more likely to follow in your footsteps.
